Ghost Festival Culture
Aug. 12, 2022
The Ghost Festival begins on the first day of the 7th lunar month. The gates of hell open up on lunar July 1 every year and open for a full month, allowing condemned souls to visit their old homes and to partake of food in the real world.
As a sign of respect, the term "Good Brothers", as opposed to "ghosts," are considered preferable when referring to lost souls to avoid offending them.
Chungyuan Pu Du is a grand religious ceremony on lunar July 15th . Taiwanese people make food offerings to make sure that their ancestors and wandering ghosts are comfortable in the underworld. It is believed that people can ask for protection and keep things safe with the offerings.
We also prepare good offerings and ghost money. Hope to release the spirit of the death and help them return to hell when the ghost Festival ends on lunar July 29.
